Who Knew A Packing Shed Could Be This Delicious?

Who Knew A Packing Shed Could Be This Delicious?

The Curated Plate – Queensland’s ultimate foodie's playground – is back in 2025! From 25 July to 3 August, the Sunshine Coast is set to be bursting at the seams with deliciousness, and we at Yanalla Farms are thrilled to be part of the fun again.

Ahead of the festival, a pre-festival media famil (aka, a foodie field trip!) was organised to get the buzz brewing. Journalists from near, far and even over the ditch (AKA New Zealand) were invited to hop along a flavour trail... and one of their tastiest pit stops? Yep – right here at Yanalla Farms for a brekky like no other.

The original plan had guests kicking back under the lychee trees, soaking up the orchard vibes. But thanks to the lingering aftermath of Cyclone Alfred (think: black thunderclouds and constant buckloads of rain), we hit shuffle mode and rolled out Plan B: giving the humble fruit packing shed a full glam makeover!   After a bit of heavy lifting — pallets shuffled, packing gear whisked away — we created a rustic-chic brekky spot for 50 lucky guests. Some hessian, a few Eumundi Quandong plants, and a whole lot of country charm later, the place was looking mighty fine — even with a sprinkle of rain.

And the food? Oh, the food. Our local legends (producers and suppliers) absolutely smashed it out of the orchard with a brekky spread that dreams are made of:

🍍 Dragon fruit smoothies and pineapple juice to start.
🍓 Bircher muesli loaded with strawberries, lychees, dragon fruit, pineapple, honey and those magical finger lime pearls.
🍏 Fresh fruit platters bursting with colour.
🧀 Savoury scones, cheeses and chutneys for the savoury souls.
🍯 Sweet scones with lashings of cream and jam for the sweet tooths.
🥓 Cold sliced ham, beef and pork chipolatas, ham steaked crowned with grilled pineapple, lamb bacon and lamb kabana
☕ Cold drip coffee, plunger coffee and tea to keep the good vibes flowing.

Chef Peter Kuruvita (The Curated Plate’s Culinary Director) and Chefs Dan Penfold and Jack Boyd (of Penfolds Catering fame) rolled up their sleeves and cooked alongside our growers, making magic happen on plates – and let’s be honest, making us all drool a little.  For a splash of extra fun, the producers were rocking bright, colourful aprons. You couldn’t miss them – or their giant smiles.

And of course, every show needs a ringleader: cue Martin Duncan, our Sunshine Coast Foodie and ultimate MC. He made sure every local producer and supplier had their moment in the sun – rainclouds be damned! By the end of the morning, journalists were absolutely raving about the food, the passion, and the people behind it all.

As the applause faded and the cars rolled out, we were left with full hearts (and slightly empty food platters).  One thing’s for sure: it was a brekky to remember – muddy boots, full bellies, and all.
